Weekend Travels

So the past two weekends we have followed our OU Sooners on the road. Last weekend was the OU v. TX game in Dallas - which we will not talk about. And this weekend was OU v. KU. We had a fabulous weekend hanging out in Kansas City with Kathryn and Matt. We also made it to Lawrence to go the game and experience Jayhawk tailgating. It's so interesting how every campus does things a little bit different. I'll be dreaming about Wheel Pizza until my next visit!!

I am now a licensed esthetician!!!!

I am officially a licensed esthetician!! My results came today in the mail. Wooo!!! I was so nervous for some reason. The written exam seemed difficult but I passed and that is all that matters.
Since I finished school I have been working at Bliss Salon on NW 112th and Rockwell. I love it so much!!! I love the girls there! We have such a great time together. I'm not too terribly busy but I have been helping our other esthetician, Mary, and that has been great! She has given me a lot of tips. I knew coming out of school it would take awhile to build a clientele but I was prepared for that.

Whenever you need a facial or sugaring....let me know!!! (Sugaring is like waxing but with a sugar based paste....it's wonderful!)

DONE!!

I am officially done with esthetician school!! My last day was yesterday. Last night some of my school friends joined Clay and me for dinner to celebrate!! So much fun. I really met some great people and made some wonderful friendships. I will miss seeing those people every day!
Now I am getting all the rest of my supplies so I can set up shop. Today I went to the state board to get my work permit. That means I can work until I take my licensing exam. I should receive a letter in the next week or so notifying me of my test date. I hate waiting....I have no patience whatsoever!!! Ugh. AND once I do take the exam I have to WAIT for them to MAIL me the results...seriously?! I need immediate results! Who uses snail mail any more for that type of thing....apparently the State Board of Cosmetology. Jeez!
Hopefully Clay and I can get my room all set up on Sunday....I'll take some pics!

I can't wait!!! YAY!

14 days left of school

I can't believe I only have 14 days left of school!!! It's going by so fast. I'm getting ready to make some big purchases - my facial bed and facial machines...so that's exciting. Kelsey let me practice on her tonight. I did her underarms and it went great! Besides just a little pain...sorry!
It's official that I'm going to be at Bliss Salon. YAY! I hope to be set up and ready to go around mid-September. It's at Rockwell and NW 112th behind the 7-11. I can't wait to be working...although I will miss some great friends that I've made in school.

Well I'm rambling but I wanted to give a quick update. I hope everyone is doing well!!!!

Trying to post more than once a month!

Today is Father's Day!!  We went to Quail Creek to play golf with my dad, and bros.  Well Clay played and I drove the cart.  We had a GREAT time spending time with family....minus the EXTREME heat!!!  Ugh.  I have never been so hot before...it was CRAZY!!  But all that matters is that Dad had a fabulous time.  :)

Other than that I'm just going to school and Clay is working.  I've been in talks with a salon about getting a room when I'm out of school...assuming that I pass my state board exam.  As soon as things are final I'll let you know where I'll be beautifying people.  :)  I really hope it works out this salon would be so much fun ....there are great people there.  So keep your fingers crossed!

I hope everyone has a great Sunday night and Happy Father's Day to all those fathers out there!!

June....holy moly

I need to get better at this posting stuff! So I've been in school abut 2 weeks now. I actually start taking clients on Thursday...kinda scary! I've been doing facials and waxing on students so far. And on Saturday Clay came in for me to wax his eyebrows! It was so fun! He got to meet my crazy school friends. :) He also got to meet one of our crazy clients that comes in every week. This lady is NUTS! She told Clay she wanted to massage him and I couldn't be around for it. She's a hoot. She gets in trouble just about every time she comes in. The owner has to come over and quiet her down. It's hilarious. Of course Clay was egging her on. I really can't post half of what she says on here because she's pretty much rated R...haha.
This weekend I am going to Denver for a sugaring class. Sugaring is basically waxing with a sugar based wax. I'm so excited!
Well not much else going on with me...just studying and making people pretty! :)

What the heck....it's May??

Where has the time gone?? I can't figure it out for the life of me! It seems like we were just celebrating New Year's and all of a sudden it's May.
Well I only have 7 days left of work and then I start my new adventure! I'm so excited!! Clay is really excited for me...but I'm not so sure that he is excited to be my guinea pig. Hahaha. It's so crazy to be doing this HUGE career change. I don't think it really seems real yet. It will feel real the first day I walk into school...haha. This is going to be completely different from what I ever thought I would be doing but I can't wait!! I'm sure there will be great beauty school stories.
There really hasn't been much else going on with us. We are planning a 4th of July trip to Colorado Springs...that will be awesome!!!

Just thought I would do a quick update.
Hope all is well with everyone!!

Sunday...

So I'm really not one to push religion or anything like that. But the sermon Sunday at church - really made me feel good about my new adventure!! He talked about Living the Dream.

Living the Dream requires:
Faith
Facing your fears
Strength beyond yourself
A different perspective
A change of focus

"Don't be afraid; just believe." Mark 5:36

Maybe I'll help someone else find their dream!! Have a great week!

My New Adventure

Well it's official - I have enrolled in Esthetician School and I start May 20!! I'm so excited. I have been thinking about this and researching it for awhile now. It all started when I was trying to think of something that would be more flexible for our family in the future....it just came to me...I can't pinpoint what exactly made me think of it but the more I thought about it the more I loved the idea!! Needless to say everyone was a little surprised but everyone has been so supportive! My ultimate goal is to open my own salon/spa one day.
I'm sure I'll have great beauty school stories...and I can't wait!! It will be so fun!

When September rolls around I will be able to help you with all of your hair removal needs...oh and facials too!! YAY!

Days of Grace - Day 2

2. Pedicures with friends
3. Saturday mornings at the Bagel Shop

Days of Grace - Day 1

So I've been reading another blog pretty frequently and she always ...well maybe not always but a lot she posts a list of things she is grateful for that day. It has got me thinking ...what am I grateful for these days?? So here goes....

1. Wonderful family and friends that I can turn to in need
2. My fantastic husband - he's my rock
3. To be able to see my brothers daily - even though it is at work :)
4. Gmail chat - to keep in touch with Jenny!!
5. My job
6. Our great house
7. Our new church home

Okay... wow...I could probably go on...but I think that's a great start!! This might be something I'll keep up!

What are you grateful/thankful for today??

Goodness I have GOT to get better at posting!!

Well....let's see. What has been going on with the Holmboes??
We've been to Dallas for a good friends baby shower. We cashed in some credit card points and stayed at the Ritz!! It was fabulous. I promise to eventually post pictures. We had a little 1 bedroom suite....awesome! It was pretty cool. The Sacramento Kings were in town for a basketball game and we actually rode in the elevator with some of the players! Couldn't tell you who in the world they were but still very cool.
Hhmmm....what else. Oh yes!! My "long lost cousin" from Denver came to town. Long story but I'm so glad she got in touch with us again!! We had a great time. We picked up right where we left off. You would never have known I hadn't seen her since I was 9!! Can you believe that...craziness. I have promised myself to not let that happen again! While she was in town she did acupuncture on us. OMG! Totally amazing. I highly encourage everyone to try it at least once. She targeted my allergies and I must tell you as soon as the needles were in my sinuses cleared and my throat was not itchy AT ALL. It was INCREDIBLE! I wish she could've left those needles in all day. :)
Gosh...I can't think...what else. I'm sure I'll think of other things to share as soon as I post this....but I better get to packing. I'm headed to Dallas tomorrow because I'm a hostess for my dear friend Jenny's shower on Saturday! I can't wait!!! I especially can't wait to meet little Jackson Scott when he comes into this world! YAY!!

Hope everyone is having a great week...tomorrow is FRIDAY!

Oh...and my birthday is coming up very soon!!! Hence the St. Patty's background...love it!

Happy Valentine's Day! ...okay maybe a day or two late :)

Clay and I had a fabulous Valentine's and I know you want to hear all about it!!  We started out the day in Edmond at the Frigid Five.  Clay did a 5 mile run and boy was it frigid!!  It's funny that the day before it was almost 70 and Saturday was in the 30s.  Clay and Chris froze their little tooshies off but they did a great job!  I sat in the car and watched  :)  Good job boys!
That afternoon we drove to Arcadia to eat at Pops.  It was an hour wait but so worth it.  The hamburgers were GREAT!  www.pops66.com  I definitely recommend it.
For dinner Clay picked up steaks and twice baked potatoes from LaBaguette.  OMG!  AMAZING!  I highly recommend buying steaks from the butcher at LaBaguette.  Just about the best steak I've ever had.  After dinner we decided to go up to the Waterford for a little dancing and drinks.  So fun.
I always enjoy a day dedicated to the one I love!!  It's really hard to believe that this was our second married Valentine's.  Time is flying by...I need to stop and take a look around.

Have a great week!!

Wednesday, February 4, 2009

Wow! Is it really February already?!

Where has the time gone?!  I have no clue.  Well....let's see.  What have the Holmboes been up to??  To start I have been working with my brothers - which is so much fun!  It's great being able to go to work and see my family.  I really love being a part of something that my brother, Tad, is pouring his heart and soul in to.  I'm doing the best I can to keep up.  :)
This past weekend Clay and I went to Vegas.  We go every year for the World of Concrete.  I just tag along for the weekend prior and Clay is there ALL week....blech.  I hated leaving him on Tuesday.  He'll be home soon enough, though.  We had a great time.  We saw Jerry Seinfeld at Caesar's Palace.  He is HILARIOUS!!  I highly recommend seeing his show if you can.  Too funny!!

Hhhmmm...I don't think much else has been going on.  Unfortunately we didn't take many pictures in Vegas.  I need to get better about taking pics!!

Hope everyone is doing fabulous!!  Have a great rest of the week.  :)

Happy Birthday Clay!!

Happy birthday to my sweet, sweet husband!  Today he celebrates his 33rd birthday!!  He doesn't look a day over 23, right?!  :)  I will never be able to tell him how blessed I am to have him in my life.  I love him so very much.  He means the absolute world to me.  I never knew true love until I met him.  Clay can always put a smile on my face and brighten the darkest nights.  He has stood by my side during everything!  I love you, babe!!  I hope your birthday was fabulous!  There are many more to come!
Happy Birthday Hubby!  :)

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Can you believe it's 2009?!!  I can't.  AT ALL!  Time goes by way too fast.
I hope everyone had a great celebration.  We had dinner with the Poes and Herdons at Flip's.  YUM!  My favorite.  After dinner Clay and I went over to Ben and Kelsey's for drinks and games.  We had such a great time!  I think definitely one of the best New Year's ever.  It was a great low key night with great friends.  We played on the Wii Fit, Scene It 2nd Edition, and Loaded Questions.  Loaded Questions was HILARIOUS!!  It's basically a game of questions everyone writes down an answer and you have to guess who answered what.  It's really funny....especially after a few adult beverages.  Thanks so much to Ben and Kelsey for hosting us!!

I hope everyone has a fabulous 2009!
